Cuba has retired the convertible peso (CUC). Unlike other destinations, do not convert your money into Cuban. Take either Canadian or American dollars. Paper bills recommended (as opposed to coins). Ensure there are no rips in the bills. If you bring loonies or twonies, expect that the locals will want to change them for bills as the banks do not accept coins.

Tips are not included and are very much appreciated by staff. For most, tips are needed to make ends meet.

Yes! Gifts for the staff are welcomed and appreciated. Things that we take for granted here are in great need in Cuba. We suggest gifts such as: toiletries, feminine hygeine products, childrens toys & clothing, medical items (like tylenol, disposable gloves, sanitary wipes), gently used clothing, makeup, etc.

It depends on what you're looking for. The junior suites are all the same, except for the view. One is Ocean and the other is Garden. The suites either give you an Oceanview from the second floor or a Swim Out on the ground floor. If you plan on participating in the activities at the main pool or just want to mingle, the Swim Out suites may be a waste. For our dollar, on of the Oceanview options provides the best value. The views are stunning.

There are excursions available to book locally. We recommend booking through an accredited Tour Operator such as Air Canada Vacations or Transat. Some of the excursions we've heard good feedback from is the catamaran tour, the "Cuba: Sugar, Cigar, and Rum" tour, or the day at Pilar Beach.

The Chill Out event is an annual week long party at Gran Muthu Rainbow presented by Air Canada Vacations. Stay tuned for dates for Chill Out in 2026.

Smoking is only allowed in most common areas but not allowed in the room. Vaping is illegal in Cuba as is recreational drugs. Please leave those at home.

A Canadian passport valid for at least six months, proof of travel insurance, and the Advanced Passenger Information Form which can be found here. Don't forget to change the language to english in the top right corner of the screen. You need to be able to print the form or screen cap it.

We recommend not bringing valuables into Cuba that are not necessary for your stay. Acoording to travel.gc.ca drones are prohibited. They will be confiscated by the authorities upon entry. Also, e-ciagrettes and vapes are forbidden. According to cubatravel.cu, the following is not permitted:

• Psychotropic or hallucinogenic substances.
• Precursor substances.
• Explosives.
• Hemoderivatives.
• Drugs and narcotics.
• Obscene or pornographic literature, articles and objects or that attempt against the general interests of the nation.
• Air conditioners with a capacity greater than 1 ton or 12,000 BTU;
• Electric stoves and ranges, except those called induction glass-ceramic cookers, of any model and that their electrical consumption does not exceed 1500 Watt, per focus;
• Electric ovens, except those known as microwave ovens, and that their electrical consumption does not exceed 2000 Watt.
• Electrical resistors of any type.
• Light motor vehicles (cars, motorcycles and bicycles with combustion engines).
• Engines and bodywork of cars and motorcycles (frames).
• Animal products (cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and all species of ungulates) susceptible to be carriers of diseases.

Cuba does have some supply shortages, but a little preparation goes a long way. Pack a few extras like peanut butter, ketchup, salt, and pepper, along with your favorite snacks—protein bars, granola bars, or cookies can come in handy. Most importantly, bring a little patience and an open mind. Things might not always go as expected, but the warmth of the people and the beauty of the country make it all worthwhile. Plus, your visit helps support local communities, making your trip even more meaningful!

Yes, round trip shuttle is included in your All-Inclusive package booked with Murdoch Travel. You may want to consider upgrading to a private transfer for an additonal fee to get you to your destination much faster. (Subject to availability.)
